The average life of a standard radiator is between fifteen and twenty years, according to Heat And Plumb. LST radiators have an expected lifespan of between ten and fifteen years. However, as with many items you invest in, the longevity is often determined by the level of maintenance and care you put in.
How Can You Maximise The LST’s Potential?
Radiator Covers
To provide protection to radiators, clients often opt for a radiator cover. When researching LST radiator covers, specifiers should closely consider the materials of which they are made from and the environment in which they will be used.
Environments that will be subjected to certain levels of vandalism or tampering may need a stronger solution than a radiator cover placed in a reception area, for example.
Normally, we would recommend 1.5mm Zintec Steel, but this can be increased to 2mm in appropriate environments. Additional benefits may be a strengthening strut placed at the bottom of the radiator cover to provide an additional element of safety.
Durable Solutions
As well as with material with which they are made, specifiers should opt for a product that has an increased resistance to corrosion, enhancing the longevity of the LST radiator’s lifespan.
Additionally, some LST radiators come with additional folds in the radiator guard to give it a higher level of strength, making it more resistant to damage.
LST Radiators For Wet Environments
Another factor impacting the longevity of an LST radiator or cover is whether it can withstand the impact of rust due to a wet/moist area.
In this instance, we recommend an LST radiator made from magnelis. This material has the same strength as steel, however, it's been cured with an additional treatment stage similar to it undergoing hot-dipped galvanising.
By doing this, Magnelis LST radiators are 10x more resistant to rust, meaning that they have a longer lifespan in wet environments such as bathrooms or toilets because of their increased water resistance and ‘self-healing’ properties.
Warranty
Of course, added piece of mind in any purchase is the length of warranty, and it goes without saying that organisations should opt for a solution with an appropriate warranty.
