Anti-ligature Inset Window Protector
Secure your environment safely, simply, and affordably with Contour’s anti-ligature window protector. Designed as a robust secondary glazing solution, it helps prevent damage, reduces the risk of self-harm, and can transform a room full of concerns into a safer, more manageable space for both service users and staff.
Engineered to withstand heavy impacts and tampering, the window protector is ideal for adapting rooms to higher-risk occupancy, such as where a service user presents with more complex or volatile behaviours, or where the building itself cannot be altered, such as in listed or heritage properties.
With optional integrated features including a dial-operated ventilation system and a discreet privacy blind positioned between the glazing and the protector, the solution supports safety, dignity, and day-to-day practicality. By installing Contour’s window protector, you retain natural light, preserve the original window, and create a secure, calming environment that promotes well-being and peace of mind for all.

Key Features
Each window protector is built around a robust 2mm Zintec or Magnelis steel frame and grille, offering exceptional durability in demanding environments. The anti-ligature grille is IP3X rated, ensuring safety by preventing access to internal components, and can be positioned according to the layout and needs of each individual room.
A clear 8mm polycarbonate vision panel provides exceptional impact resistance while allowing natural light into the space. Designed to be virtually unbreakable, it offers enhanced safety without compromising visibility.
Secure compression cam locks are fitted as standard, delivering tamper-resistant protection while still allowing authorised access for maintenance when required. These locks contribute to the overall strength and integrity of the unit.
Optional Integrated Ventilation Grille
- To support ventilation without compromising safety, an optional controllable vent can be included. Operated via an anti-ligature dial, this feature allows airflow from an externally open window to be adjusted safely from inside the room, giving residents or staff control while maintaining secure conditions.

Optional Integrated Blind
- A fire-rated blind can be integrated discreetly between the window and the protector, providing a safe and practical solution for light management. Operated via an external anti-ligature dial, the blind is fully enclosed, meaning it cannot be pulled down or removed like traditional anti-ligature curtains. This prevents the sudden flooding of light into the room, which can disrupt sleep patterns and negatively impact recovery, particularly for individuals with mental health conditions. Available in a range of colours, patterns, and blackout or standard finishes, the blind supports both safety and occupant comfort while maintaining a clean, tamper-resistant appearance.

Adaptability
- Each window protector is manufactured to bespoke dimensions to ensure a precision fit across a wide range of window styles and building types, including settings where window replacement isn’t possible, such as listed properties. Where additional privacy is needed, frosted polycarbonate vision panels can also be specified, allowing light through while obscuring visibility from outside.
This combination of strength, flexibility, and user-focused features makes the window protector a practical and effective solution for safety-critical environments.
In addition to their safety and performance benefits, Contour window protectors offer excellent adaptability to suit a wide range of window types and building conditions. They can be installed either as surface-mounted units or inset within the window reveal, depending on the needs of the space. For more ornate or uneven reveals, often found in older or listed buildings, the design can be mounted using a timber subframe or a bespoke chamfered metal framework. This flexibility ensures a precise fit and a clean finish, regardless of the substrate or building age, while maintaining all key safety and anti-ligature features.

FAQs
How do I open the window to let fresh air in?
The vision panel is secured using Contour Secure’s tamper-resistant compression cam locks, which are operated with a dedicated key. Once unlocked, the panel can be fully removed, providing clear access to the existing window for ventilation and allowing for easy cleaning of the window reveal.
What sizes are available?
Each unit is made to measure, tailored to the exact dimensions of your window reveal. As a guide, smaller sizes (e.g. 1200mm x 1500mm) are typically constructed as a single door, while larger areas (e.g. 4000mm x 2000mm) are manufactured as a modular system made up of multiple panels.
Can the vision panel be replaced?
Yes. In the unlikely event that the polycarbonate vision panel becomes damaged, it can be easily replaced without removing the entire frame, minimising cost, time, and disruption.
How do I place an order?
Contour offers free, no-obligation site surveys. Simply contact our team to arrange a visit from one of our experienced surveyors who will assess your windows and take all necessary measurements.
Can I order a specific colour to match our décor?
Window protectors are supplied as standard in RAL 9003 white with BioCote® anti-microbial protection. We also offer RAL 7014 grey as a second standard colour (note: this version does not include BioCote®). Other RAL colours are available on request and may incur a surcharge - please contact our team to discuss your requirements.
