MoJ Approval Sets a New Standard for Radiator Safety in Secure Environments

Contour Heating is proud to announce that the DeepClean Extra+ anti-ligature radiator guard has been officially approved by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) for use within its property estate, including use in standard and safer cells. This is the first time a radiator guard has ever received MoJ approval, setting a new benchmark for safety, security, and hygiene in custodial settings.

This significant milestone highlights the years of product development, innovation, and rigorous testing that have gone into the DeepClean Extra. Specifically, the design –, which has been approved in a floor-mounted, sloping-top format up to the maximum size of 1200w x 960h x 260d, passed the MoJ’s stringent comparative testing standards for fixed furniture intended for use in cells (Specification STD/X/SPEC/063, Issue 005).

While the MoJ has approved the design up to a maximum size of 1200mm (W) x 960mm (H) x 260mm (D), it is important to note that the same design, construction methods, and security features can be applied to a wide range of sizes to meet the specific requirements of different rooms and layouts. Contour can manufacture bespoke units using the same configuration, ensuring compliance with the MoJ-approved standard while offering the flexibility to suit individual project needs.

Built for the Demands of the Custodial Sector

The DeepClean Extra+ has been engineered from the ground up to withstand the extreme demands of high-risk environments. These guards are manufactured from 2mm Zintec or Magnelis steel, finished in PPC RAL 9003 white (or alternative RAL colours), and designed with a host of anti-ligature and anti-tamper features to meet the challenges posed by custodial settings.

Each unit includes:

• Robust construction: 2mm Zintec or Magnelis steel
• Sloping top design to prevent climbing or concealment
• 10mm radius corners to reduce the risk of injury
• Internal strengthening strut for added structural integrity
• IP3X test compliant ventilation grilles that prevent insertion of objects
• Low-level cut-outs integrated during manufacture where required
• Secure internal wall and floor fixings, completely concealed from the outside
• Anti-ligature security cam locks and M6 Pin Torx fixings for restricted access
• BioCote® anti-microbial technology embedded into the coating to reduce the risk of bacterial contamination (as standard in RAL 9003 white, other colours at extra cost)
• Contour’s patented full-height access door – offering robust access for cleaning and maintenance without compromising safety

These features were developed in close consultation with estates teams and custodial facility managers, ensuring the product met real-world requirements, not just theoretical standards.
