In hospitals it’s not uncommon to have high traffic, fears of infection, use of heavy-duty equipment and vulnerable people. Therefore, the hospital experience may be daunting for some.
Contour replaced 92 linear metres worth of outdated and potentially dangerous perimeter heating covers on a link corridor at a hospital in the North West.
The previous radiators at this hospital were outdated and worn. Dust was gathered inside the radiator and trapped in the fins.
The radiators were in a busy corridor. Due to the placement of these radiators, they were being damaged on a regular basis. As a result of frequent damage over time, the previous covers dangerous with sharp edges on display.
Of course, this is a hazard to staff, hospital patients, and visitors, who may be vulnerable, elderly, or young.
As with many healthcare environments, this hospital needed easy access for cleaning and maintenance to the heat exchangers underneath. When it comes to hospitals, there are strict hygiene protocols and high risk of cross-contamination.
Hygiene is key in hospitals, to reduce the risk of hospital associated infections such as, MRSA.
Another challenge this hospital faced, was a solution to cater for covers to follow the contours on the walls.
The existing design of perimeter heating followed the contours of the walls so this meant utilising the modular design that the Deepclean radiator cover offers.
Another design consideration were the grilles. Making sure the new grilles were what we class as “pencil proof grilles “ was key. There will be anyone from patient’s in wheel chairs and beds as well as children visiting with their parents transiting through the corridor so having a design of grille that minimises small objects from being lost down the grilles or stopping fingers being caught in them was key.
The grille design is small in diameter with a 5.5mm wide radius grilles. The radius grille design makes it easier to clean due to it being a flat surface.
For cleanliness, the DeepClean radiator cover was installed.
The DeepClean LST radiator guard is constructed using a patented, quick release hinged door. This allows the front of the casing to be laid flat to the floor and provides an operative easy access to clean the radiator.
Easy To Clean
As standard, all of Contour’s LST Radiators come with BioCote protection. This unique powder coating can help combat a range of dangerous bacteria such as MRSA and E.coli.
Contour made sure that the hazards from the previous radiators were removed, ensured the grilles were pencil-proof and access to clean inside them was easy to help keep bacteria levels down within the hospital.
